I am a planner by nature and usually have my schedule thought out days in advance. Sometimes, circumstances thwart my plans and that occurred this weekend. Relentless rain kept us at home most of Saturday while Lyn had to work extra hours today, preventing us from carrying out our intended activity.
I felt some unrest when that happened, but decided to make the best of the moments. I used the extra time at home to craft with An, and together, we prepared Sunday School props. On hindsight, that was a blessing in disguise. I had intended to prepare the props at night, but I was so glad that I got it done much earlier and did not need to worry about that when we were out that evening.
Today, we made an impromptu visit to Gardens by the Bay. Our initially planned activity required our swimsuits and we had that all packed in the car. When we arrived at the gardens, we decided to bring the kids to the Children's Garden and play at the water play area. I was one of the very few mothers who got all drenched but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The kids and I ran, skipped, raced and danced in the water as our Disney favourites played on. I think J and An have never run so much in their lives. Somehow, we did not feel tired as we ran under the pelting waters. It was truly fun.
Before we left the gardens, we were treated to a mini firework display, probably from the DBS Regatta taking place at the Promontory. At the Garden Rhapsody, I revelled in familiar tunes by Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Saint-Saens and Offenbach and felt blessed as I swayed to the music with Little An.
Through this, I am reminded that God's plans are higher than ours and when our human schedule does not take place as planned, we need not fret as He has something better in store for us. I am also reminded to commit my plans to Him.
"We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps." Proverbs 16:9.
