Happy 9th Birthday to My Dearest Son

Dearest J,

You are ALMOST 9! Time flies. I realised how much you have grown when we went to Kidzania recently. You took off with your friends and I was too slow to catch up, so I was not one of those parents who hovered around to capture shots of you trying out different occupations. It was difficult to even locate you. This is in contrast to when we went to Kidzania in KL four years ago. Then, we stayed close to you and shared every of your experience.

You are also starting to have a mind of your own. Before, you were a compliant child and would obey all our instructions. You went with me to wherever I wanted to go and wore any clothes that I chose for you. Now, I receive more questions than before and you would like your voice heard. I respect that. Do remember to make your voice known respectfully and always know that your parents have your best interests at heart. :)

God showed your strengths clearly to you this year. You did an online multiple intelligences test and music and mathematics were your top smarts. God blessed you with a merit in Grade 3 violin despite little practice and when you were invited for the GEP selection test. I pray that as you discover your strengths, you will put in effort to hone your talents so that you can bless others with what God has blessed you with. May you discover God's purpose for you and fulfil it. I must say that you are truly motivated in mathematics already and it is a delight seeing you teach it to your little sister.

You have been a great help to me and I appreciate your presence, especially since Papa is so busy with work. You gladly wash your own cutlery and sometimes your sister's and will assist in carrying things when I run out of hands. It is a joy to hear you ask "Mama, do you need help?" Keep being a helpful boy, my dear.

I am happy to see you make more new friends this year. It was great to see you interacting happily with your friends at your birthday party yesterday. May God continue to make you a kind and encouraging friend to others and may He bless you with godly friends who would spur you on in your journey with Him.

You may become more busy as you grow, with more afternoon school activities and with increased difficulty level in schoolwork. May the peace of God rest on you as you manage your responsibilities. Approach every task with a positive attitude and a spirit of excellence and leave the results in His hands. The process is more important than the outcome.

I would like to reassure you that Papa and I love you very much and you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that you will draw close to God and fulfil His plans for you. I pray that you will be kind and loving. I pray that you will get along well with others. I pray that you will be bold and courageous. I pray that you will increase in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and men. May you be blessed wherever you go and in whatever you do.

Love, Mama. :)
